 | REVIEW OF “FACE TO FACE WITH DESTINY” BY KK SUDAN Entitled ‘FACE TO FACE WITH DESTINY’, the debut novel of Shri K.K. Sudan, throws light upon the conditions prevailing in the undivided India and thereafter. Beginning the pre-partition era of the atrocities of the British Raj, deep brotherly relations amongst the masses especially between Hindu and Muslim communities which suddenly had changed into hatred and barbarism, later transformed into physical torture and mental agony of the fleecing Hindus from the newly formed Pakistan in 1947.
After having undergone an open-heart surgery, the author himself, now a septuagenarian, has truthfully recorded the hard struggle of his family for survival after migrating to India and becoming penniless refugees who had to start life afresh like a phoenix from the ashes of the partition.
Born in a small village ‘Araazi’ he spent his early years of childhood in Rawalpindi and with his strong and immense power of observing things, has depicted minute details of the city of those times before the advent of electricity, telephones, etc.
Based upon originality, the book enlightens the reader with breathtaking sequences, the author has gone through, during various pilgrimages under taken by him. He had visited thrice, the holy caves of shri Amarnathji, during last forty years and has depicted the events in a picturesque manner injecting life to the words. Places of tourist importance in Kashmir valley have also been mentioned delightfully.
The youth of today can certainly draw the inspiration from the struggle; the author had gone through, and his craving for educational upliftment which drove him to take up higher studies with a long gap of twenty years after passing his matriculation exams. The book also strongly advocates that serving your parents and getting their blessings will surely keep you happy and strong enough to survive in this mortal world, a social bond which the current generation needs to nurture. The book motivates the reader to become a “karamyogi” not succumbing to the whims of the destiny. Topping on the cake is that the story telling style of the author builds up the interest of the reader in the events which get unfolded page by page and the excitement keeps him hooked on to the book till the end. The inclusion of various anecdotes, chosen from his life, has made the book all the more interesting.
